Juice Fasting

Standard

I’ve been thinking about  this post for three or four days now. I figured it was time to share it.

I’m a big believer in natural “medicine.” My mom has a foot detox machine and we’ve definitely been known to go to Betty, the “herb lady,” @ Naturally Herbs over going to the doctor. There just seems to be more sense in putting natural stuff in your body over the stuff a pharmacist gives you. On top of all that, I’m a believer in the fact that doctors and pharmaceutical companies don’t want for us to know this stuff (and may not even be educated in natural healing) because that industry would die out.

A friend of mine recently told me that her husband will be juice fasting for a period of thirty days, so I decided to do some of my own research. I also thought I remembered something from my childhood about someone diagnosed with breast cancer refusing chemo and drinking natural juices instead. I thought I remembered her being completely healed of her cancer as well. While I didn’t confirm it with her, I did find quite a bit of research to support it.

While looking through many juicing websites, I also had FoodMatters (Netflix instant movie) playing in the background. FoodMatters quoted that one study completed a study of terminally ill patients that used juices for their diet. Terminally ill. Think about it. Those patients were told by their doctors that their cancer WOULD KILL THEM. Fifty percent of those told they would die were healed of their cancer through the juice fasting.

a word from God

Standard

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.- Hebrews 13:2

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’-Matthew 25:37-40

Today as I was heading home from lunch with my parents, Stephanie, and Chris I saw a man sitting on the side of the road. He held up a cardboard sign that said “DISABLED HOMELESS FOR REAL.” As soon as I saw him, those verses went through my head.

Lord, give us eyes to see what You want us to see. Give us hearts open for Your words and Your children. Bless the man on the side of the road. Bless the people around us who struggle day in and day out. Guide their paths and let them see YOU through Your children. Thank you for the blessings you have given me. Help me to use them to bless others.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

Standard

Yep, it’s a big announcement!!! Nope, we aren’t having a baby. I know I had to get the hopes up of at least half of you with the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT title.  🙂

Background info leading up to the announcement:

Well, Brett and I are big Dave Ramsey people. Those of you that spend any amount of time with us usually know that. I don’t think we’re over the top or anything, but I would say that I’ve never met anyone as dedicated to getting out of debt as we are. Brett is ALWAYS looking at and revising our budget. It comes up in conversation almost every day. We don’t own any credit cards and usually pay for anything we buy in cash. We have sold I-don’t-know-how-many cars since we’ve been married. Brett works side jobs whenever we can and I have my own Tastefully Simple business. I don’t want for anyone to start feeling sorry for us, so I should note that we don’t lack for anything. God has blessed us richly and we are incredibly thankful for that. Back to the Dave Ramseyness: The only debt we have left are mortgages (three to be exact) and student loans. Freed-Hardeman undergrad (Brett) and Union University graduate school (me) are not cheap ways to get an education, but they were great schools for us to go to. So anyway, we are on track to have the student loans paid off in close to three years. That just isn’t soon enough for Brett. So he has introduced a particular plan to me several times and yesterday I semi-bought into it. Want to hear it? It may just knock your socks off….

Well, we just recently (like 3 months ago) moved into a beautiful home in a great neighborhood in Jackson. This is our grow-into-and-stay-forever home. It was a foreclosure so we got a REALLY, REALLY good deal on it. We fixed it up, and I am absolutely in love with it! I’m also in love with Brett, and he has a way of talking me into things. Not just talking me into it, but making me believe it’s a good idea. So call us crazy, but we listed our grow-into-and-stay-forever-beautiful-home on Craigslist. We, yes I said we (I told you he could talk me into anything), would like to find a home in the $90,000-$100,000 range to move into. We really like the location of our first home (now a rental), so we think we could find a home in that area around there. We actually toured a really cute, charming little house in that area today. At a little over $100,000, I think it’s a little overpriced, but it’s certainly cute. It has a wonderful outdoor entertaining area! So, I guess you’re wondering how this all would fit into our plan. Well, if we sold our house at it’s appraisal value (as listed on Craigslist), we would walk away with a good chunk of cash to either save or pay a HUGE chunk of the student loans off with. At that rate, with the money we’d be saving on a mortgage, taxes, and utilities we could pay off our student loans in 12-15 months. Brett says we could just find a house comparable to what we live in now and move again. My plan, probably the smarter of the two, includes staying in the house 2-3 years and saving a TON of cash for a very sizeable down payment on a house. Some of you might would argue that we wouldn’t get as good of an interest rate at that point, but I told you Brett thinks about this stuff constantly. He has studied trends in interest rates and said he doesn’t expect it to go up very high. He could be wrong, I guess, but that may just be a risk we’re willing to take. Whatever house we live in during the “saving stage” would then become a rental. That area is perfect for rentals!

So if you know anyone looking for a nice house at a great buy…maybe you could send them our way? 🙂 We’d appreciate it. Also, if you live in the Skyline Drive area and have a home for sale, we might be interested in seeing it!

What do you think of our plan? Think we’re crazy??? I don’t think I’d blame you. Just remember, while the rest of you are trying to figure out how to pay for your kids’ college, we’ll be retired millionaires! 🙂

FOREVER

Standard

Well, I haven’t updated this in FOREVER (thus the title). Sorry about that. I have had updated pics on my computer for a while now, but I wanted to put them in a Prezi. Well, I haven’t had time to do that, so I decided to just put them in a Flickr album instead, so you can check them out!  Use the link below!

I haven’t done anything upstairs at this point, but that doesn’t mean I won’t soon! 🙂 You’ll just have to check back to see how that goes. 🙂

Well, I’ll try to write more on life as we know later, but for now I’ll leave you with a link to pictures. P.S. If it isn’t showing you the title and description of the photos, click the Options link in the top right corner of the screen. Click the box that says something about always showing descriptions on this computer. That should solve the problem for ya!  ENJOY!

Tired….

Standard

The only interesting thing that happened today was that the dishwasher was installed. I didn’t take a picture, though. Sorry again.

The main thing on my mind tonight is how tired I am. I didn’t think spending my Spring Break painting would wear me out like it has, but MY GOODNESS…. I am one tired girl. Meanwhile, I have observations and TCAP to prepare for. I just finished some end of the year paperwork about my first year teaching. I can’t believe it’s almost over….so weird. There have been lots of ups and downs, but I have enjoyed it so much. Tonight in the Financial Peace University class that Brett and I are facilitating, we talked about enjoying your work. I know I’ll never make a lot of money, but I think I’ll forever love my job. It is such a blessing to love what you do. I am thankful for the opportunity to do what I love while influencing little ones. I smile and laugh a ton every day. Try talking to 7 year olds about solids, liquids, and gases. It’s all giggles….expecially once someone introduces the “potty” forms of matter.  What a funny group of kiddos. Children truly are a blessing from the Lord.

Speaking of Dave Ramsey’s FPU, anyone know of any great furniture places with decently priced furniture? I want a nice sectional for the living room.

Well, that’s enough for tonight. I’m off to bed. Goodnight!

Guess what?!?!?

Standard

Well, the floor is done. The guys need to lay the transition strips, but they floors are down! Also, Maria painted the foyer. It looks wonderful, too! Yes, it was actually only $75. If any of you out there need a painter, Brett has her number. Great paint job and super cheap!

We were able to get some accomplished tonight as well. I painted the first coat in the sunroom. I’ll have a picture of it for you once it’s all done and dry. I think the color is quite nice. Brett doesn’t think it looks like Christmas now that it’s on the wall. I’ve been telling him to just trust me. One of these days he’ll learn that I know best. 😉  While I did that, Brett did a little cleaning and then began working in the garage. After finishing that first coat, I began unpacking some of the boxes for the kitchen.

Furniture: I’ve got to purchase seating for the living room. At this time, we don’t have any to even take with us since Stephanie, the woman moving in, has purchased our current furniture from us.

We did find out today from a plumber that one of the tubs upstairs has a crack in it, so it isn’t usable. Oh the joys of surprises!

The plan is to move this weekend. We have some friends that are willing to help on Friday, so it should go pretty smoothly! 🙂 I’m hoping to be sleeping in the new house by Saturday night. Brett doesn’t know if it’s quite possible, but I think it can happen.

I forgot the camera again today, so all I have are a couple camera phone pics that Brett sent me today.

7: Day of Completeness? Not in this story.

Standard

The floor guys did some work today. You might remember that they were supposedly going to be finished by noon today. Well, they didn’t arrive until close to 10:00. When I got there around5, they were already gone….and the floors weren’t finished yet. If they show up tomorrow (they didn’t inform us that they weren’t actually going to finish today OR that they would be returning tomorrow) they should be able to finish up. There isn’t a lot left to be done. However, Maria is supposed to be showing up in the morning to paint the super high ceilings in the foyer… which is EXACTLY where they still need to lay flooring. That should be interesting.

We had a special delivery today!! Our new fridge, double oven, and microwave arrived! 🙂 The microwave and double oven still need to be unwrapped and installed. I prefer to cook with gas, so we purchased a gas range. The connection, however, is electric. This wasn’t a surprise and we already have someone lined up to come take care of that for me! 🙂 You can find a picture of the fridge below, though! I think the stainless steel looks BEAUTIFUL with the aqua walls!

Brett helped Blake, his younger brother, move some stuff to Jackson from Henderson tonight, so he was unable to work at the house tonight. I arrived at the house around 5:00 and stayed until 8:00ish. What did I do? Well, I have the final coat of trim done in the sunroom. I hope that it will be done sometime tomorrow night or Wednesday night, so we can get some stuff moved in. I also took pictures of yesterday’s work with the actual camera since the camera phone ones look a little crappy.

On a completely different note: Some of you already know, but some of you may not. Our church is participating in Lent this year. I know, it seems a little strange, but it’s been pretty eye opening to several people. I gave up TV. I’m really missing it tonight. It’s really just now hitting me. I can hear Betheny Ever After and I Shouldn’t Be Alive in the background and I SO BADLY want to go watch….

Anyhow, here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.
